Grove Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Grove (“the app,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects information about you when you use our mobile application. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data in compliance with applicable laws. By using Grove, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information we collect
We aim to collect as little personal information as possible. However, we may collect:
- Contact info:
- Name: If you create an account, we may collect your first and last name.
- Sleep & wellness data:
- Sleep metrics you log or sync: Such as bedtime, wake time, sleep duration, and related notes you choose to save.
- Apple Health (HealthKit): With your permission, we may read or write sleep-related data to help track and display your progress. You can change Health permissions anytime in the Health app and iOS Settings.
- Gamification data: In-app progress such as streaks, rewards, levels, or challenges tied to your sleep goals.
- Usage data:
- Product interaction: Data such as app launches, taps, screens viewed, feature usage, and other interactions.
- Other usage data: Additional activity data generated while using the app to improve features and performance.
- Device & diagnostics data:
- Crash data: Information related to app crashes, including logs and device information at the time of the crash.
- Performance data: Metrics such as app launch times, hang rates, and energy usage.
- Other diagnostic data: Additional data collected for technical analysis and debugging.
- Advertising & attribution data:
- Device identifiers: Such as IDFA, if permitted.
- Attribution data: For example, whether you installed the app after viewing an ad.
- Event data: Such as app installs, trial starts, and purchases.
This data may be shared with advertising platforms (e.g., Meta, TikTok) for measurement, attribution, and advertising optimization. We do not use advertising data ourselves to build user profiles beyond improving our app and marketing performance.
3. How we use information
- Provide and improve the service: Names support accounts and syncing. Sleep and usage data power insights, gamification, and reliability fixes.
- Personalization: We may use your patterns to suggest sleep goals or in-app challenges. Personalization is done algorithmically, without extensive profiling.
- Communications: If you contact support, we use the information you provide to respond. We may send occasional in-app notifications about important updates; we do not send spam.
- Advertising & attribution: We use limited data to measure ads, understand acquisition, and optimize marketing (e.g., installs, trials, subscriptions).
We do not:
- Sell your data to third parties.
- Use your data for third-party ad targeting unrelated to Grove.
4. Third-party services
Grove may use third-party services to operate and improve the app:
- Analytics: We may use services such as Superwall and Mixpanel to collect usage data, which may be associated with device-level identifiers but is not used by us to directly identify you.
- Error reporting: We may use Sentry and Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports. Reports include device type and technical details at the time of the error, not direct identifiers.
- Advertising platforms: We may use services such as Meta (Facebook) and TikTok to measure ad performance and attribute installs or purchases. Those platforms may receive limited data such as device identifiers and event data.
5. User rights and choices
- You can delete your account at any time from the app’s settings. “Delete account” will remove your personal data (account info and stored preferences) from our systems, subject to lawful retention for fraud prevention or legal obligations.
- You can revoke HealthKit access in iOS Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices.
6. Data security
- Communications between the app and our servers use HTTPS encryption where applicable.
- Third-party providers are selected for reasonable security practices.
- No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you suspect unauthorized access, notify us immediately.
7. Data retention
- We retain personal data only as long as needed for app functionality and legal requirements.
- If you delete your account, we erase or de-identify your personal data as soon as practicable.
- Aggregate analytics that does not identify you may be kept longer to improve the app.
8. International data transfers
Your data may be transferred to and stored on servers in the United States or other jurisdictions where our providers operate. We take steps to comply with applicable data protection laws for those transfers.
9. User consent and withdrawal
- You can withdraw consent for HealthKit or notifications via iOS Settings at any time.
- Withdrawing consent may limit certain features (e.g., automatic sleep import).
10. Cookies or local storage
- The app does not use browser cookies but may use on-device storage for preferences and cache.
- Much of this data stays on your device and is not readable by us unless you sync it to your account.
11. Updates to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Grove evolves or laws change. We will notify users of significant updates via in-app messages when appropriate.
13. Advertising & tracking transparency
We comply with Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. Where required, we request permission before tracking your activity across other companies’ apps and websites.
You can control tracking permissions in your device settings.
